Cultivating skills, community, and a greener future.

Our KOKO Foresters are at the heart of our environmental work, a vibrant network of young people forging new connections with their urban landscape and local community through our pioneering projects.

Launched in partnership with grassroots organisation Think & Do, this initiative creates real opportunities for the young people living on the estates where we plant trees and wildflowers, and install Beeline Boxes.

Across 15 estates we’ve recruited and trained over 25 KOKO Foresters, who are employed for two years to nurture our environmental projects. We provide the tools and training they need to become custodians of their environment, and it’s a privilege to see how they blossom through our work together.

From planting and watering, to pruning and fruit harvesting, it’s our Foresters who keep these spaces alive, season after season.

For some, their role sparks a new and rewarding relationship with nature, positively impacting their wellbeing while simultaneously helping the environment. For others, it provides purpose, new skills and a pathway into green careers. Many forge new connections –with other Foresters and the neighbours and friends they meet through their work.

Chrissy joined us in 2023 as one of our first KOKO Foresters, and has gone on to become a green mentor with Global Generation and a neighbourhood curator working on Regent’s Park Estate Story Trail. She says ‘Being a KOKO Forester has opened so many doors. Just like the mycelium connecting the trees, Communi-Trees has connected me to other community based projects and I’m forever grateful.’

‘It’s changed my life, I never thought I’d be this social, speaking to my neighbours or even just people seeing me water the trees. Overall my experience has been amazing, it’s made me grow a lot, the same way I’ve been helping the trees grow.’
Adam, 19.
